Balzon: I blått tre sølv ankere forent i trepass. In English: Azure three anchors in pall annulets conjoined.
Approved by the royal resolution of 11 September 1987 after a drawing by Daniel Rike. [c2j88]
Three thee anchors symbolise the three communities that were joined in 1962 - Lillesand, Vestre Moland and Høvåg, as already noted and described in [c2j87] but not yet depicted there, as it was at the time still not approved by the resolution. Thus the [c2j87] shows the previous COA of Lillesand (the other two municipalities did not have any arms prior to 1962, apparently), showing already an anchor and a tern flying over it. It is shown also athttp://www.ngw.nl/heraldrywiki/index.php?title=Lillesand It was designed by Jens T. Thommasen and Kjell Westermark Mørch. That design, adopted in the municipal government on 15 December 1954 was not approved by a royal resolution. It obviously served as inspiration for the current design element - anchor.
