Złotoryja is in Złotoryja county, 10 km SW of Legnica. German name: Goldberg in Schlesien. The old settlement, which received city rights in 1211, derived its name from goldsoap found here. It was devastated by the Mongols in 1241. It is an industrial center since the 17th century. Here met the French under MacDonald and Russians under Wittgenstein 27 May 1813 for a battle.
