Orzysz city and commune flag
Orzysz - urban-rural commune, Pisz County, Warmińsko-mazurskie Voivodship - German name: Arys.
Gmina Orzysz is an urban-rural gmina (commune) in Pisz County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodship, in northern Poland. Its seat is the town of Orzysz, which lies approximately 24 kilometres (15 mi) north-east of Pisz and 96 km (60 mi) east of the regional capital Olsztyn.
Area: 363.49 sq.km (140.3 sq.mi); Population: 9,567 (2006).
First mentioned in 1443 - settlement Neudorf (Nowa Wieś) 1725 - city rights granted by King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia 1890 - establishment of vast military proving grounds.
1914-15 - (November-February) - Russian occupation
1945 - city severely damaged - included into Poland
Arms adopted on November 29, 2002 (resolution # II/5/02).
Flag adopted on December 28, 2006 (resolution # III/28/06).
"Arms: on the white shield a black eagle with golden crown holding sceptre and sword resting on the blue pillow and the horn of plenty filled with flowers, all on the red pedestal.
Flag: rectangular piece of cloth in the ratio 5:8 composed of three equal horizontal bands: yellow-green-blue.
The flag was a winning entry in the competition of 2005. The author is Ms.Joanna Skibińska
from Gdańsk.
