Szamotuły flag
Szamotuły - urban-rural commune, Szamotuły County, Wielkopolskie Voivodship - German name: Samter.
Gmina Szamotuły is an urban-rural gmina (commune) in Szamotuły County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. Its seat is the town of Szamotuły, which lies approximately 32 kilometres (20 mi) north-west of the regional capital Poznań.
Area: 175.07 sq.km (67.6 sq.mi); Population: 28,575 (2006).
1231 - first mention of the settlement later called Old Szamotuły (Stare Szamotuły)
1284 - first mention of New Szamotuły (Nowe Szamotuły)
1306 - destruction of Stare Szamotuły during the civil war
1420 - granting of city rights by King Władysław Jagiełło
1551 - first printing press in Greater Poland region

Arms adopted on December 17, 1990 (resolution # VI/31/90).
On a blue shield an image of a crowned king's head and below it two silver-gold jewels. The shield is crowned too.
The image is that of King Kazimierz Jagiellonczyk (Casimir the Jagiellonian) who twice reaffirmed the city rights of Szamotuły - first time in 1455.
Flag adopted on February 25, 2004 (resolution # XVIII/102/04).
Rectangular piece of cloth in the ratio 5:8 composed of three uneven color bands:
Upper and lower ones are light blue and of 1/4 of the width of the flag.
The wide, yellow band is of 1/2 of the width of the flag and bears, on the left half of it, the uncrowned shield of the Arms of Szamotuły."
