About the flag
It is a fairily typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of armscentered on a plain green background. Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República : III Série in 2002.07.30.

The arms are Argent issuant from a mound Vert lined Sable a parasol pine (edible nut pine) proper between two crescents (*) Gules. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DE ARGANIL".
(*) In Portuguese heraldry the crescent are thus termed (crescente, waxing moon) when it points up and minguante (waning moon) when it points down. Other positions are called lua (moon) and are considered as a completely diferent heraldic entity.

Plain (monocoloured) portuguese subnational flags are not allowed to have variations without arms : plain flags always carry the coat of arms.

Presentation of Arganil
Arganil municipality had 13 623 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 18 communes covering 332,13 km². It is part of Coimbra District, traditional province and 1999 ref. adm. region Beira Litoral, current C.C.R. / NUTS II Centro, and NUTS III Pinhal Interior Norte.
