It is a typical Portuguese communal flag with the coat of arms centred on a plain green field.

Shield Or two granaries Vert with lattice Or in fess, flanked on chief bay a Paschal Lamb Azure and on base by a yoke Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "S. JOANINHO – CASTRO DAIRE".
Meaning:
The Paschal Lamb is an attribute of St. John the Baptist, patron saint and name giver of the commune. Granaries and yoke are representing agriculture as main business line.

Presentation of São Joaninho
São Joaninho is one of the 11 communes of Castro Daire Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes. It had 348 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 8,06 km².
