Coat of Arms
Shield Argent, a walnut tree and a chestnut tree, both eradicated, Vert, and fructed Or, on chief a Marian crown Azure, on base parted by two barrulets wavy, Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and long white scroll, as often used by united communes, reading in black upper case serifed letters "NOGUEIRA E SILVA ESCURA".
Meaning:
The canting walnut tree and the barrulets are taken from the arms of the former Nogueira Commune, chestnut tree and crown from those of the former Silva Escura Commune. The crown is furthermore an attribute of St. Mary, who had been the local patron saint of Nogueira as Our Lady of Expectation and of Silva Escura simply as St. Mary. As no river nor creek is crossing the commune, the barrulets probably stand for the Village of Rio (= river), being part of Nogueira.
