It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain green field.

Coat of Arms
Shield Or; issuant from base a mount Sable, charged with a heraldic fountain and topped by an eradicated olive tree Vert, fruited Sable; in chief a mandorla Gules, charged with a Latin cross Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "SANTA EUFÉMIA - PINHEL".
A mandorla is an oval aureole, having the shape of an almond.

Coat of Arms
Shield Argent with base wavy of Azure and Argent, a sorb eradicated sVert fruited Gules, flanked by two triplets of rye ears Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "SORVAL".
Meaning:
The commune´s name is related to "sorveira" (= sorb; Latin: Sorbus domestica). The tree is thus canting.
