About the flag
It is a fairly typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a green and black quarterly (town rank) background. Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República : I Série in 1941.03.22.

The arms are Argent a holm oak Vert trunked Sable and fruited Or issuant from coupaux Sable emphasized Or and flanked at dexter chief by a Christian King’s head and at dexter chief by a Moorish King’s head and in campaign a fess wavy Vert on a a fess wavy Argent. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "Vila de São Brás de Alportel". (Yes, there’s Or on Argent and even Argent on Argent in this coat of arms!)

Presentation of São Brás de Alportel
São Brás de Alportel municipality had 10 032 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of a single commune covering 150,05 km². It is part of São Brás de Alportel District, traditional province, 1999 ref. adm. region, current C.C.R. / NUTS II, and NUTS III Algarve.

It is a fairly typical portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centered on plain white background. Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República : III Série in 2000.10.03.

The arms are Vert a cork oak Argent debarked Or and fruited Sable between a sword Argent set in pale and poining upwards shoved across a open crown crown Or with three stems at dexter and a crescent Argent surmounted by an estoile Or at sinister. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (commune rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "Freguesia de São Brás de Alportel".
