It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Shield Vert, an obelisk Or between a chameleon Argent in dexter and a tuna fish hauriant Argent at sinister and in base a bar wavy Azure charged with a barrulet wavy Argent. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (commune rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "FREGUESIA DE VILA REAL DE SANTO ANTÓNIO".
Meaning:
It is interesting that neither the municpal nor the communal arms bear any reference to St. Anthony of Lisbon and Padova, the namesake and patron of the city.

Vila Real de Santo António Commune is one of the three communes of the Vila Real de Santo António municipality (q.v.); it had 10 542 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 8.95 km².
