Blue Dot Flag by Tijs Bonekamp (original) (raw)

The Blue Dot Flag was created in 2019 by Dutch designer Tijs Bonekamp. It displays a blue circle (shade a bit lighter than FOTW color B, but visibly darker than B-) on a light green field (shade a bit lighter than FOTW color V-, but visibly darker than V--). The ratio of the flag dimensions, as well as that of the circle compared to them, is borrowed from the flag of Japan. The circle represents the Earth, the symbolism being inspired by the Pale Blue Dot photo, while the field stands for nature. The flag is being sold by the Blue Dot Flag Foundation, whose website displays numerous photos of its use worldwide; more photos are found at the foundation's Instagram account.
