About the flag
From XIX century Russian analogue of the St.Klaus - "Uncle Freeze" - presents the gifts to children not alone but with "Snegurochka" (Snow Maiden), character of Russian fairy tales, girl made from snow (see, for example, photo of the postcard). She is granddaughter of the Uncle Freeze. Of course, Snegurochka is a symbol of the New Year.
Snegurochka is depicted at the flag of the Ostrov district (Ostrovskiy rayon) in Kostroma Region adopted 31 May 2006.
