Overview

The town was founded in 1635 as Koslov (Козлов). In Koslov an earth wall of some 25 km protected the region successfully from Tatar raids. Thus other walls were erected. The settlement gained the rights of a town in 1779. It was renamed to Mitschurinsk in 1932 in order to honour botanist Ivan Mitschurin (1855-1935), who died in Mitschurinsk.

The Flag

It is a red over white over green horizontal tricolour with ratio approx. 3:1:1. In the upper hoist corner is the coat of arms.
Source: I spotted this flag on 17 December 2012 in the town hall of Munster, the German partner city of Mitschurinsk. I have attached a 3:5 version (spotted) and a 1:2 version. The latter is probably used in Russia.

Coat of Arms

In the green shield is an open silver (= white) book with golden (= yellow) cover and inscriptions. It is superimposed by a green branch. Above are three golden (= yellow) apples. The shield has a red base displaying the old coat of arms (in red a silver (= white) he-goat on top of a green hill). The base is divided from the rest by a golden (= yellow) curve, probably showing a cardioplegia. Beneath the shield is a green wreath bound by a golden scarf. Between garland and shield are two tiny black tools (among them a hammer).
