Current status

I would like to update you about the latest events concerning thecampaign for the Norrland flag.

The campaign for the green-yellow Norrland flag has been called off, at least for the near future.

The reason is simply that the white-blue-yellow flag is more popular among the inhabitants of Norrland while the green-yellow flag is more or less forgotten. Five years of campaigning for the old flag has ended up with nothing. If the inhabitants of Norrland like the white-blue-yellow flag better, then we just have to accept that.

If there should be some new debate in the future about a "definite" Norrland flag, the green-yellow flag can be proposed as an alternative again. But as it is today, it is the white-blue-yellow flag which will have the best chances of becoming the definite official flag for Norrland.

As for the campaign website, it's still in use but more focused on domestic political issues in the province of Norrland.
Ronny Lindholm, 05 May 2008

Norrland is a vast part of Sweden (making up significantly more than half the territory, even if it is not very populated) so there are different opinions within Norrland. Some people would prefer provincial flags.

Actual flag

A site with information about the flag of Norrland can be found at:http://www.freewebs.com/norrlandsite/.

Since there are or has been at least three Norrland flags in use, this site provides information about the "real" Norrland flag which is green with a yellow cross.

Second proposal for a flag

In the early 1970s, a campaign to stop migration southwards made a green-yellow flag for Norrland. Green was in place of the blue in the flag of Sweden, and was to symbolise the natural riches of the region. As I understand the campaign is still using the flag.

Third proposal for a flag

A third proposal (1972) had no success and has never been used. The proposed design was white-green.
