Situated in Eastern Slovakia, 25km from Poprad, Levoča is an attractive historic town that is easily visited from Poprad or any of the High Tatras towns. During the 14th & 15th C. Levoca was a major trade center in Central Europe; however from the 17th C onward its importance waned. Now a small quiet local town, its rich heritage is visible only in the medieval architecture of the central area. Home of the famed wood carver Master Pavel, many of his works can be seen in several of the buildings on the main square.

Levoča Coat of Arms

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, which dates from the late 15th century, but are most likely older. Older seals, however, show St. Jacob and his symbol, the shell. The present arms were granted in 1550, and the city at the time applied for renewal of its historical arms. The cross is the old arms of Hungary.
