From the site of Ukrainian Heraldry:
"It was confirmed at April, 19th, 1996 by the city council decision N11. The purple shield per pale by vert plant. In the center of it is sable triangular. In the right part of it is one half of argent gear, in the left - one half of azure retort. Purple mans Cossack freedom, argent means wisdom. Triangular means land, and coin, chemical and machine-building industry. Plant is a symbol of life. The author is T.Kravchenko."
