Overview

From <www.heraldry.com.ua>: "For the first time it was mentioned in 1471 as a town-fortress of Kyivs'ke principality. According to one of the legends the origin of the name comes from the fact that in old days the inhabitants of the town beat the large Tartar horde off by a miracle."
