As of 2013, 8 independent nations still maintained dependencies of some sort:
- French Polynesia
- New Caledonia
- Saint-Barthélemy
- Saint-Martin
- Saint-Pierre and Miquelon
- Wallis and Futuna
- Anguilla
- Bermuda
- Cayman Islands
- Falkland Islands
- Gibraltar
- Guernsey
- Isle of Man
- Jersey
- Montserrat

In addition, some territories exist without permanent civilian population:
