Description of the flag
I received confirmation from the City of North Pole, Alaska that this is both their official city logo and flag.
Phil Nelson, 8 September 1999
According to the Fairbanks Daily News Miner of December 4, 1990, the flag of North Pole was adopted after a contest was held in which about 20 entries were received. The flag of North Pole was adopted in November/December 1990, the winner of this contest being Bill Howe, inmate at the Fairbanks Correctional Center at the time, who received $50 for designing the city flag.
Also, based on more recent city meetings, it appears the city flag now has a black-white-black border around the diagonal red and white stripes.
The city passed a resolution on October 20, 1980 calling for a city flag using the city seal on a field of blue. No further information.
