Description of the flag

The town of Rutland is located in the Worcester County, Massachusetts. The map has a red background with a white map of the state which includes the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. A sage green tree is centered on the flag as well. The date of 1722 is counterchanged on the background and then the map. The name of the city is counterchanged as well.

"Located high in the hills of Worcester County, 12 miles northwest of the City of Worcester and 52 miles west of Boston, Rutland occupies the highest elevation of any town between the Berkshires to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Rutland also holds the distinction of being the exact geographical center of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, with a tree marking the spot on Central Tree Road."
