Description of the flag
In "The Daily Reflector" (1), 9 May 2006, T. Scott Batchelor reports the adoption of the city flag of Greenville. On 8 May 2006, the six members of the City Council have all voted on a design created by Councilman Larry Spell. The flag is horizontally divided green-blue-green with the municipal seal in the middle. The blue stripe represents the Tar river, which separates the city's northern and southern sections, whereas the green stripes represent the local verdant landscape.
"[...] As a private pilot, Spell said the feature sticks out when he's in the air. The Tar is "an important part of Greenville's history," though it hasn't always been kind, Spell said, referring to 1999's flooding from Hurricane Floyd.
[...]
Spell's was one of two alternatives submitted for council's consideration. The other featured the city seal on a white background. When the wind isn't blowing, a flag like that would look plain white and wouldn't garner much attention, Spell said. "I thought some color up there would really make it look nice," he said.
[...]
City staff wanted to have a flag in hand for the opening of City Hall, slated for June 4.
[...]"
The flag does not exist in real yet since the City Council is looking for a cheap manufacturing price.
