Artist's Description
The flag utilizes green and white on a navy background. I was inspired by the Tennessee State Flag, which uses a �Tristar" shield to represent the three Grand Divisions of Tennessee - West, Central, and East. I use a single star on a shield, positioned in the "Western" section of the flag, to represent our place as the unofficial "seat" of West Tennessee. On the left, you will see a double arrow pointing Eastward (toward the rising sun) - as a symbol of progress, hope, forward-thinking, and continuous development and improvement. The six lines in the large arrow represent the strings of a guitar, with the circular star shield acting as the sound hole of the instrument. This specifically represents the music history of Jackson, but could also be said to reference the arts and culture of our city too. The second "arrow" is comprised of two bars that connect directly in the center of the star - representing the connections made in Jackson - by roadway, career, friends, or family. The right section of the flag has three wavy lines symbolizing three winding paths. Each line could be said to represent a distinct passageway into or through Jackson - the roads/highways, the railroad, and the waterways of the Forked Deer. Note that together, each wavy line, each winding path, runs parallel alongside each other. This symbolizes that regardless of our individual journeys - the winding paths our lives take us on we are never truly alone, as long as we remember our home in Jackson, Tennessee.
