The winning municipal flag design was revealed at this weeks regular City Commission meeting. The winning entry was submitted by Trey Jimenez, an 8th grade student at Sweetwater Middle School. He is an Art III student. He is the son of Junior and Becky Jimenez, brother to Sweetwater HS grad Ashleigh Jimenez. Jimenez explains his design this way:
"The horizontal bar at the bottom half of the flag is a representation of the general beginning of Sweetwaters prosperity when the tracks of The Texas and Pacific Railway reached Sweetwater in 1881. The single star at the top of the flag represents the idea of the popular sovereignty. When put into words it means that the local government is governed by the will of the people of Sweetwater. The star shows as well that the people of Sweetwater are united as one and are undivided when confronting the issues that face the City. The curved line beneath the singular star represents the snake, of course, which annually generates revenue and prosperity for the City of Sweetwater since the founding of the Rattlesnake Roundup in 1958."
