Local events - La Marmotte, Alpe D'Huzes, Marco Pantani, Alpe D'Huez Triathlon, La Vaujany (original) (raw)

There are a number of cycling or sporting events based nearby to our accommodation in Bourg D’Oisans. To see these rides and more and to check dates, go to the Bike-Oisans website:

Alpe D’Huzes - 1st week of June

A yearly Dutch charity event, the aim is to climb Alpe D’Huez six times, either individually or in teams. The money is raised to support cancer patients and in 2011, more than 20 million euros was collected. Even if you are not riding the event, it is an experience to witness. The Dutch have their own special way of making a great party atmosphere on Alpe D’Huez, with dance music and plenty of encouragement from spectators for all the participants.

La Marmotte - 1st weekend of July

One of best known and probably hardest cyclo-sportive in the Alps, La Marmotte starts every year in Bourg D’Oisans. It takes in the climbs of the Col du Glandon, Col du Telegraphe, and the Col du Galibier, before coming back to Bourg D’Oisans for the final ascent of Alpe D’Huez.

As well as being an ideal base during the race week itself, why not come along a few weeks before to familarise yourself with the climbs and descents, as well as getting in a serious block of training in prior to the event?

The ride can easily be broken up into two separate days of riding by making use of our drop off service.

With a training week you get to learn the route, understand how to best pace yourself on race day (very important!) and also get the best possible training with time to recover before the big day itself.

Alpe D’Huez Triathlon - End July

The Alpe D’Huez Triathlon is run over short and long courses - the short being 1.2/30/7km and the long course being 2.5/115/22km for the swim/bike/run. The long bike course takes in the Col de La Morte, Col D’Ornon and then Alpe D’Huez making it unusually difficult for a triathlon bike course. The short course isn’t easy either being the ascent of Alpe D’Huez! Both the short and long course races start in the Lac Verney, near Allemont (8km from Bourg D’Oisans, 20km from Alpe D’Huez).

GFNY Events - July and August

The US based sportive company, GFNY now run two events in the Oisans both starting and finishing in Vaujany, just 10 km up the valley towards the Croix de Fer. They have medium and long options and are really good value considering that you get a free jersey as part of the entry fee at around 60 euros.
