A private railway owned by the Seaton Burn Coal Company, Ltd., passes over the royalties held by the Burradon and Coxlodge Coal Company, Ltd., and the coal from the latter company's Lizzie Pit is led over it. The Seaton Burn Coal Company run a workmen's train, consisting of a locomotive engine and two old railway carriages, from Killingworth, where they have a number of workmen's houses, to their Dinnington and Seaton Burn Collieries, which lie beyond the Lizzie Pit. This train passes near Burradon Colliery, where deceased lived, and for some time the Burradon and Coxlodge Company's miners living at Burradon, and working at the Lizzie Pit were allowed to use it, a halt being made near Burradon Colliery and at the Lizzie Pit junction. This privilege had been formally withdrawn on the 16th December, and notices posted in the carriages to that effect, On the 19th December, the next working day, deceased again made use of the train, but as it no longer stopped at the Lizzie Pit junction he jumped off the fore part of the second carriage while it was going at a speed of about eight miles per hour, and stumbling on alighting he fell and one of the last wheels of the second carriage passed over his legs. He was taken to Newcastle Infirmary, but died the same day. No official notice reached me from the Burradon and Coxlodge Coal Company, but the Coroner sent me notice of the inquest
