Jones, Lt.-Col. Charles Godfrey, D.S.O., J.P. Officer Crown of Roumania. Colliery Agent and Assistant Chief Colliery Manager, Ebbw Vale Group of Collieries. Born, Blaina 1880. Started life as a Corners' Assistant and occupied official positions at the Ebbw Vales Company's Collieries for 10 years prior to the War, 1914-1918. Assistant Colliery Manager, Waun Lwyd Colliery, 1913-1914. Joined His Majesty's Forces 1914 as Private in the 11th (5) Batt. the Wesh Regt. Held every rank up to and including Major in this Battalion. Transferred and promoted Lt-Col. to command 9th (S) Batt. Border Regt., December 1917. Promoted to command 65th Infantry Brigade, November, 1918. Four times mentioned in despatches. Awarded D.S.O., June, 1918. Officer of the Crown of Roumania, January, 1919. Became Justice of the Peace for County of Monmouth in April, 1922.
