Biographical Notes

Peake, Major, G. H. Son of the late Henry Peake of Westholme. Born, 1859. Educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, B.A. and L.L.B., 1884, called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn, 1887 ; J.P. for Nottinghamshire and the West Riding of Yorkshire and Major, retired, Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry. Mayor of East Retford, 1904 and 1905. Chairman and Managing Director of the Strafford Collieries Co. Ltd., Barnsley. Chairman and Managing Director of the Airedale Collieries Ltd., Castleford, also a Director of the Yorkshire Electric Power Co., and the Lincoln Wagon Co. Served for 18 months with the Yeomanry during the War, and then became Chairman of the Yorkshire Pitwood Association, formed for the purpose of supplying timber to the Collieries of Yorkshire during the War. Also interested in farming and the drainage of land.
