Mixing Fluids (original) (raw)
The final mass and temperature when mixing fluids are calculated below.
Final Mass of Mixed Fluids
m = m1 + m2+ ... + mn (1)
where
m = final mass (kg, lb)
m1..n = mass of substances
Final Temperature of Mixed Fluids
t = (m1 c1 t1 + m2c2t2+ ... + mn cn tn ) / (m1 c1 + m2c2+ ... + mn cn ) (2)
where
t = final temperature ( oC, oF)
c1..n = specific heat of substances (kJ/kg oC, Btu/lb oF)
t1..n = temperatures of substances ( oC, oF)
Example - Mixing Water with Different Temperatures
10 kg of water with temperature 10 oC is mixed with 2 kg water with temperature 100 oC . Specific heat of water is 4.2 kJ/kg oC .
The final mass of the mixture is
m = (10 kg) + (2 kg)
= 12 kg
The final temperature of the mixture is
t = ((10 kg) (4.2 kJ/kg. oC ) (10 oC ) + (2 kg) (4.2 kJ/kg. oC ) (100 oC ) ) / ( (10 kg) (4.2 kJ/kg. oC ) + (2 kg) (4.2 kJ/kg. oC ) )
= 25 oC
Mixing Fluids - Final Mass and Temperature Calculator
The calculator below can be used to calculate the final mass and temperature when mixing two fluids.
