The UEFA Nations League was unanimously adopted at the XXXVIII Ordinary UEFA Congress in Astana on 27 March 2014.The format for the third UEFA Nations League will again feature promotion and relegation. The 55 European national teams have been divided into four leagues in accordance with UEFA's first Nations League project. League A includes the top-ranked sides, including England, and League D includes the lowest.Teams will be split into three groups of four and two groups of four or three, with the group winners then contesting the UEFA Nations League Finals (semi-finals, third-place match and final) in June 2023 to become the third UEFA Nations League winners. One host country will be appointed from among the finalist teams.The draw took place behind closed doors on Thursday, 16 December 2021 at the headquarters of UEFA in Nyon, Switzerland. League A was drawn by Robert Pires.On 28 February 2022, Russia were suspended from all UEFA competition matches. On 2 May, they were placed in fourth place of Group Two of League B with no matches permitted.
