The Seven Pre-War Penalty-Kicks Scored against England
- "If any player shall intentionally trip put on hold an opposing player, or deliberately handle the ball within twelve yards from his own goal-line, the referee shall, on appeal, award the opposing side a penalty kick, to be taken from any point twelve yards from the goal-line, under the following conditions:-All players, with the exception of the player taking the penalty kick and the opposing goal-keeper (who shall not advance more than six yards from the goal-line) shall stand at least six yards behind the ball. The ball shall be in play when the kick is taken, and a goal may be scored from the penalty kick."- 2 June 1891, Glasgow

1 June 1909, 8-1 vs. Austria,Hohe Warte Stadion, Wien Nineteen year-old inside-left Leopold Neubauer scored the first opposition penalty kick against England, it was against Sam Hardy (26 yrs 278 dys). Another source names Ludwig Hussak, who was a 25 year-old outside-right. The reason for the award is unknown.

15 March 1920, 1-2 vs. Wales, Arsenal Stadium, Highbury 21 year-old centre-forward Stan Davies equalised with his fourteenth minute penalty kick against Sam Hardy (37 yrs 202 dys). The kick was awarded after captain Jesse Pennington handled the ball in the area.

1 November 1923, 2-2 vs. Belgium, Bosuil Stadion, Antwerpen 26 year-old left-half Achille Schelstraete put his country ahead with his 75th minute penalty kick against the debuting Ted Hufton (30 yrs 340 dys).

12 February 1927, 3-3 vs. Wales, The Racecourse, Wrexham 27 year-old centre-forward Len Davies and already scored for his country before he despatched a 36th minute penalty kick against the debuting Jack Brown (27 yrs 329 dys) to even the scoreline at two each. The penalty was awarded after George Green was adjudged to have tackled Rees Williams unfairly.

19 May 1928, 3-1 vs. Belgium, Olympisch Stadion, Antwerp 27 year-old inside-left Jacques Moeschal scored after 25 minutes against Ben Olney (29 yrs 58 dys) to open the scoring. The kick was awarded after Vince Matthews handled the ball. It is unsure whether this kick was taken outside or inside the penalty area.

4 April 1936, 1-1 vs. Scotland, Empire Stadium, Wembley 20 year-old inside-right Tommy Walker scored his penalty kick after 76 minutes against Ted Sagar (26 yrs 57 dys) to equalise for his country. After a free-kick, debutant John Crum was brought down on the six-yard box. Keeping his nerve as the wind blew the ball of the spot.

Both Neil Franklin and George Hardwick had a share in bringing down Gunnar Nordahl.

The penalty was awarded afterRobert Dienst was chasing a long ball and collapsed when Jack Froggatt attempted to tackle him. Dienst had kicked the ball too far in front of him.

The penalty was awarded after the referee, Elrich Schmetzer, controversially penalised Peter Sillett following his tackle on Jean Vincent. Williams slipped as Kopa took the kick.

The kick was awarded after Kenny Sansom slid in on Diego Maradona. 31 May 1980, 2-1 vs. Australia, Cricket Ground, Sydney 23 year-old Gary Cole **scored an 88th minute penalty kick against Joe Corrigan (31 yrs 195 dys). The kick was awarded after Joe Corrigan fouled substitute Peter Sharne.

1 July 1990, 3-2 vs. Cameroon, Stadio San Paulo, Napoli Emmanuel Kundéscored a right-footed placed 62nd minute penalty kick just away from Peter Shilton's (40 yrs 286 dys) left reach. The kick was awarded after Paul Gascoigne had stuck out his foot as Roger Miller ran into the area, attempting to glide past him, bringing him down. 7 July 1990, 1-2 vs. Italy, Stadio San Nicola, Bari Salvatore Schillaciscored a winning 85th minute penalty against Peter Shilton (40 yrs 293 dys), sending the keeper the wrong way with his right-footed strike going into the right of the goal. Awarded after Schillaci was himself brought down by Paul Parker on the line, as he took a pass from Baggio.
