Jimmy Mullen appeared in the UK Phone Books from 1959 onwards, he was living at 23 York Avenue, telephone number 27612. His sports shop (Jimmy Mullen Sports Ltd) was at 61 Stafford Road, telephone number 21511. By 1968, his sports shop had moved to 33 Broad Street. By 1980, he had moved home, to 33 Birchfield Avenue in Tettenhall, telephone number Wolverhampton 753177. He remained at both until at least 1984

Played school football in Newcastle upon Tyne, playing for Newcastle boys and Northumberland boys. He was spotted and signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, signing amateur forms and joining the groundstaff in July 1937, becoming a professional in January 1940. Apart from guesting for Leicester City FC, he remained with Wolves until his retirement in May 1960, completing 448 league appearances, scoring 99.
