Club Career
Club(s) Played schoolboy football within Wolverhampton and played his junior football with Heath Town Wesley FC and Heath Town United FC (Wolverhampton Wanderers FC amateur). Although Nicholls had trials at Wolves, it was with West Bromwich Albion FC with whom he signed amateur forms in August 1950, turning professional in August 1951. He made 131 league appearances, scoring 58 goals. Joined Cardiff City FC in May 1957, scoring twice in eight league outings**. Joined Exeter City FC in November 1957 for about £4,000. He** returned 55 league appearances with 23 goals. Joined Worcester City FC in June 1959 (56 Southern League apps and fourteen goals) and Wellington Town FC in February 1961 and onto Oswestry Town FC before the end of that season. Nicholls then spent the 1961-62 season with Sankey's FC of Wellington. He finished his career in the West Bromwich local league with H Meadows FC and Red Dragons FC.
