Airborne means carried by air, (e.g. airborne particles, airborne pollution) or carried in or on aircraft, (e.g. airborne radar). An aircraft is said to be airborne when it is in the air after taking off.


Airborne refers also to the military troops trained and equipped to be transported by air, often to be landed behind enemy lines.See: Airborne forces for more information.
