**cal** is a standard progam on Unix that prints an ASCII calendar of the current month or year.

Example

~$ cal May 2003 Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31

Cal_\' (short for_ California') is also the nickname for the University of California, Berkeley, dating from the days when it was the only University of California campus (1868-1927), prior to the creation of UCLA. It is still frequently used for the U.C. Berkeley sports teams.
