The island of Delos, near Mykonos, is the mythical birthplace of Apollo and Artemis.
Inhabited since the third millennium BC Between 900 BC-100 AD Delos was a major political centre, in 166 BC it was given by the Romans to the Athenian city state, but in modern times it has become uninhabitited. It is currently only used for archeology and tourism.
