Iligan City is a city in the northwestern part of the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. It is approximately 800 kilometers southeast of the capital, Manila and is located in the province of Lanao del Norte.
Known as the City of Waterfalls, Iligan is also a major industrial center and produces hydroelectric power for the region. According to the 2000 census Iligan City has a population of 325,000, with a majority of Cebuano speakers (94%), and both Muslim and Christian cultural influences. The climate is consistent year around since Iligan is outside the typhoon beltwith an average temperature of just 22 Celsius, and average rainfall of 109mm per month.
To the west Iligan Bay provides ferry and container ship transportation. East of the city, flat cultivated coastal land gives way to rolling hills and mountains providing the waterfalls and cold springs for which the area is well known.
