London Borough of Southwark (original) (raw)
The London Borough of Southwark is a London borough, located on the south side of the River Thames. Its neighbours to the north are the City of London and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Its neighbours to the south are the London Borough of Lambeth and the London Borough of Lewisham. The name Southwark originates as the name of the area immediately south of London Bridge which was first settled in the Roman period, and first got its name in the 9th Century AD.
Note: Southwark is pronounced "suthuk" or "suthark" and is enunciated quickly i.e the 'ark' or 'uk' following the suth swiftly.
