Also called the Twin Cities.Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota. St. Paul is the capital of Minnesota. The region is the 15th-largest metropolitan area in the United States as of the 2000 census. The population of the Twin Cities area is nearly three million people (2,968,805). The Minneapolis-St.Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area comprises thirteen counties:

• Anoka,
• Carver,
• Chisago,
• Dakota,
• Hennepin,
• Isanti,
• Ramsey,
• Scott,
• Sherburne,
• Washington, and
• Wright Counties in Minnesota; and
• Pierce and
• St. Croix Counties in Wisconsin.
