�rebro is a city and a municipality in middle of Sweden. It is located in and serves as the seat of residence of the County of �rebro. The municipality covers an area of 1371.4 km². Of the total population of 124207, 60125 are male, and 64082 are female. The population density of the community is 91 inhabitants per km².
History
�rebro grew around and was named for a bridge (Swedish "bro") over the river Svart�n near gravel banks ("�rarna").
Although a trade town, the �rebro remained small until the second half of the 19th century, when it grew rapidly as a centre of the national shoe making industry. As of 2001, it is the 7th largest Swedish municipality.
Attractions
�rebro Castle originates from the 13th century, when a watchtower was built to guard the bridge over the Svart�n. The castle was later generally expanded. It is located in the centre of �rebro.
�rebro's old town Wadk�ping is located on the banks of the Svart�n. Consisting of 18th and 19th century wooden houses, Wadk�ping has several museums and exhibitions.
The water tower of �rebro, nicknamed Svampen ("mushroom") is a popular destination as a view tower. A copy of this tower, built in 1958, is located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
