Pío Pico (May 5, 1801 - September 11, 1894) was the last Mexican Governor of Alta California, now the U.S. state of California. Among other accomplishments, he successfully survived the Mexican-American transition and after the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo he returned to Los Angeles and was elected to the Los Angeles City Council.
