Silicon Forest (original) (raw)
By analogy with the Silicon Valley, the Silicon Forest is a nickname for the Portland metropolitan area in Oregon. It refers to the cluster of high tech companies present there, which specialize in
- output devices (like displays and printers)
- semiconductor device fabrication
- software
and related areas.
The industries which came to be known as part of the Silicon Forest date back to the 1940s, in particular Tektronix and Electro Scientific Industries.
