University of Detroit-Mercy (original) (raw)
University of Detroit-Mercy (also known as Detroit-Mercy or UDM) is a Catholic university with two campuses in Detroit, Michigan. It was formed by a merger of the University of Detroit (U of D) and Mercy College. The campus that was originally the U of D main campus is called the McNichols campus and is located at 4001 West McNichols Road (zip code 48221). The Mercy campus has become the UDM Outer Drive campus and is located at 8200 West Outer Drive. (48235).
The merger of the two colleges was an unusual situation; though both were Catholic colleges, U of D was associated with the Jesuit order, and Mercy College was associated with the Sisters of Mercy. These two groups are very different in their goals and views.
UDM is regionally renowned in dentistry, polymer engineering, basketball, and several allied health professions.
