STATUS AND TRENDS IN MANGROVE AREA EXTENT WORLDWIDE (original) (raw)
Angola
Vegetation description
Mangroves are found at the mouths of all large rivers, becoming more shrub-like further south and disappearing completely south of Benguela. Rhizophora mangle is the main species, followed by R. racemosa, Avicennia africana (syn. A. nitida)and Conocarpus erectus. Mangroves associated species include: Chrysobalanus ellipticus, Annona palustris, Pandanus spp., Erythroxylon emarginatum

Trends in mangrove area extent over time
The estimate for 2000 has been calculated applying the FRA 2000 (FAO, 2001) annual forest change rate for the year 1990-2000 (-0.2 percent) to the most recent, reliable figure
