Dates Originated shortly after the Elves; the last Entings must predate the loss of the Entwives at the end of the Second Age Race Ents Pronunciation en'tings Meaning Probably 'little Ents'1 Indexes: Alphabetical: E Ents About this entry: Updated 12 July 2003 Updates planned: 1 Young Ents Years of the TreesFirst AgeISecond AgeIIThird AgeIIIFourth AgeIV A name used by the Ents to refer to juvenile members of their own kind. At the time of the War of the Ring, due to the loss of the Entwives, there had been no new Entings for centuries. Notes 1 The ending '-ing' has at least two possible meanings in this context, though the diminuitive 'little Ents' seems the most appropriate. As a less likely alternative, it might also imply that the Entings belonged to the people of the Ents (as in the Eorlings, those who belonged to the people of Eorl).
