His younger brother was the famous Bandobras Took, the victor of the Battle of Greenfields, but as the elder brother it was Ferumbras who inherited his father's Thainship. He served as the Shire's twenty-fourth Thain for forty-two years, and was succeeded in turn by his son Fortinbras.
