Career:

1670: he started his career in Edo, performing under the name of Saigoku T�gor�.

Beginning of the 1680s: he took the name of Saigoku Hy�gor� I.

7th lunar month of 1694: Hy�gor� joined the troupe led by Ichimura Takenoj� II, which was invited to perform at the mansion of the daimy� Matsudaira Yamato-no-Kami.

1st lunar month of 1695: Hy�gor� moved from the Ichimuraza to the Moritaza. His rank in the Edo hy�banki, d�kegata section, was j�-j�-kichi (superior - superior - excellent) [visual].

11th lunar month of 1696: Hy�gor� performed at the Moritaza in the drama "Shitenn� Yome Kagami".

1699: Hy�gor� joined the Yamamuraza.

6th lunar month of 1699: Hy�gor� played at the Yamamuraza the role of Sokohira Sukeday� in the drama "Isshin Onna Narukami".

7th lunar month of 1700: Hy�gor� played at the Yamamuraza the role of S�ma no Tar� in the drama "Tsuya Kanmuri Onna Masakado".

1701: Hy�gor� temporarily moved from the Yamamuraza to the Ichimuraza.

11th lunar month of 1701: Hy�gor� was back at the Yamamuraza.

3rd lunar month of 1705: Hy�gor� appeared on stage for the last time, in Edo at the Yamamuraza, playing the role of Kuwada T�ji in the drama "Keisei Yoshinagazome".

9th day of the 12th lunar month of 1705 [1]: Hy�gor� died in Edo [2].

Saigoku Hy�gor� I was a popular and talented d�kegata actor, who was active in Edo from the end of the Kanbun era to the first years of the H�ei era.

[1] The 9th day of the 12th lunar month of the 2nd year of the H�ei era was the 21st of January 1706 in the western calendar.

[2] His tombstone was located in the cemetery of the Ch�anji Temple in the district of Shiba Isarago.
