Career:
Before 1735: he does his training in Kamigata in koshibai venues or in travelling Kabuki troupes, performing under the name of Otowa Jiroza I. There might be a master-disciple relationship with the actor Otowa Jirosabur� I, but so far there is no element to prove it.
1735: Jiroza works as a zamoto in Nagoya.
1738: he becomes a disciple of Nakamura Yazaemon.
11th lunar month of 1738: he becomes katakiyaku and takes the name of Nakamura Jiroza I at the Kado no Shibai, playing in the kaomise drama "Sanpukutsui Kogane no Ichigura", which is produced by Nakamura J�z� I.
11th lunar month of 1741: Jiroza plays at the �nishi no Shibai the role of Nagasaki Kageyu Saemon in the kaomise drama "Bankoku Taiheiki", which welcomes in �saka the Edo actors Ichikawa Ebiz� II and Ichikawa Danj�r� III. It includes the "Uir� Uri" scene and is produced by Sadoshima Ch�gor� I.
1st lunar month of 1742: premiere at the �nishi no Shibai of the play "Narukami Fud� Kitayama Zakura"; Jiroza plays the role of Hayagumo no �ji [casting]. Jiroza's rank in the �saka hy�banki, katakiyaku section, is j�-j�-(shiro)kichi (superior - superior - (white) excellent) [visual].
11th lunar month of 1743: Jiroza plays at the Kado no Shibai in the kaomise drama "Tansh� Teteuchi Guri" (this title was used for the first time in the 5th lunar month of 1729 at the Naka no Shibai).
1st lunar month of 1744: Jiroza's rank in the �saka hy�banki, katakiyaku section, is j�-j�-(hanshiro)kichi (superior - superior - (half-white) excellent) [visual].
12th lunar month of 1745: the drama "Natsu Matsuri Naniwa Kagami" is performed for the first time in �saka, simultaneously in the three major theaters of the city, which starts a competition for the best performance; Jiroza plays the role of Mikawaya Giheiji at the Naka no Shibai [casting].
Spring 1748: Jiroza goes on tour with Kataoka Nizaemon IV in Iga and Ise. He dies the same year.
Comments:
Nakamura Jiroza I was a katakiyaku actor, who spent all his career in Kamigata during the first half of the 18th century. He spent less than 10 years in �shibai but became quickly popular because of his manly bearing and his ranking was a little bit below j�-j�-kichi when he died.
