The kaomise drama "Inari Yashiki Daikoku Bashira" was produced in the 11th lunar month of 1717 [1] in �saka at the Naka no Shibai by Sawamura Ch�j�r� I. The opening day was the 2nd day of the 11th lunar month of the 2nd year of the Ky�h� era, which was the 4th of December 1717 in the western calendar. A kiri ky�gen entitled "�saka Shinj� Hajimari" [2] was staged from the 1st day of the 12th lunar month (the 2nd of January 1718 in the western calendar). The kaomise and the kiri ky�gen were staged with the following casting:

[2] This drama was a shinj�mono based on the story of Ch�emon and his lover Ichinoj�. The 17th day of the 5th lunar month of the 3rd year of the Tenna era (the 11th of June 1683 in the western calendar), the courtesan Yamatoya Ichinoj� and her lover Goze no Ch�emon committed suicide together in �saka. This event caused quite a stir and three �saka theaters decided to capitalize on the situation by simultaneously producing the same month the first shinj�mono of Kabuki history.
