His first stage name was Takinaka Kach�. He became disciple of Ichikawa Danj�r� I, received the name of Ichikawa Kodanji I and was trained as a wakashugata. He took the name of Ichikawa Nedanji in the 1st lunar month of 1724 at the Moritaza. He took back the name of Ichikawa Kodanji I in the 1st lunar month of 1726, playing at the Ichimuraza the role of Washinoo no Sabur� in the new year drama "Niwatori �sh� Genji". This was his last stage performance. His rank in the 1726 Edo hy�banki, tachiyaku section, was one black stroke below j�-j�-hankichi (superior - superior - half excellent) [visual]. He died in Edo the 12th day of the 11th lunar month of 1726. He was active in Edo up to 1776. We don't know what happened to him afterwards for he disappeared from the stage records.
