Biological Themes in Modern Science Fiction Helen N. Parker (UMI 0-8357-1577-9, 1984 [May ’85], $24.95 + postage, 109pp, hc) Non-fiction, literary criticism. This revision of a doctoral thesis appeared in 1984, but we did not see it until 1985.

Parnell & Mike Ashley (Greenwood 0-313-23989-4, May ’85 [Apr ’85], $65.00, xvii + 602pp, hc) Non-fiction, reference book which covers semi-pro magazines as well as professional magazines never before indexed. It also goes up to 1983. Important for major libraries and those with major magazine collections, despite the price. (CNB)

The Faces of Science Fiction Patti Perret (Bluejay 0-312-94147-1, 1984 [Dec ’84], $11.95, 163pp, pb) Non-fiction, associational. Book of photographs of sf and fantasy authors, including Asimov, Bradley, Disch, Pohl, and Simak. Includes a brief “statement” by each of the subjects. This is a fine book, marvelous to take to a convention for autographs. (FCM)
